The NHS Big Tea is a chance for people up and down the country to come together and celebrate the NHS. As Mrs Doyle from Father Ted fame would say 'will you have a cup of tea… go on!'
It’s a great time to host your own tea party, with cakes bought or baked. Invite friends, family and colleagues for a summer get-together and celebrate the great work that our hospitals do.
The humble cup of tea has a traditional home within the NHS. Originally served to patients in fine cups with saucers with a side spoon, tea was considered an important aspect of patient satisfaction and recovery. Tens of thousands of patients enjoy tea in NHS hospitals across Devon and Cornwall's clinics and GP surgeries every day. Tea brings us all together. It breaks down social boundaries, and like the NHS and NHS charities, is a symbol of comfort and community.
Whether you love 'Speciali-teas' or 'Builders' join in with the great NHS tradition and share your favourite cuppa! Dig out your doileys, dust off your cake stand, drag the china out of the cupboard and trundle out the tea trolley for the your local hospital!
