With just 2 days to go until the start of the British Transplant Games 2018 in Birmingham, athletes from across the UK are getting ready to compete.

The Trauma, Orthopaedic and Rheumatology departments at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust would like to say a big thank you to the League of Friends for their kind donation of a CoaguChek machine. The machine will ultimately assist in quicker treatment and patients being able to go home sooner.

“For busy people to take the time, like this, to get together and share ideas, and to collaborate on research … that’s the absolute gold standard,” said Roy Lilley, speaking at last month’s Research, Development and Innovation conference.

An innovative study, led by researchers at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and the University of Plymouth, is seeking to improve survival rates for patients following major surgery.

Yesterday marked the 70^th birthday of the NHS. The milestone has been very prominent in national media, with a wide range of events running across the country to mark the special occasion.
