The Defenders 4 Kidneys team paid a visit to Derriford Hospital this morning, as part of a national tour to raise awareness for Kidney Research UK and Kids Kidney Research.
As a grateful recipient of a kidney transplant, Barry Jacobs is leading a group of Land Rover Defender drivers across the UK in a kidney-shaped route, visiting all Renal Transplant Centres. Along with family and friends, Barry hopes to share his experience with others, and to promote the charities and their work to develop treatments for patients with all types of kidney disease.
The team have travelled from Portsmouth to visit the South West Transplant Centre (SWTC) at Derriford Hospital today, and will continue on to Bristol Children’s Hospital this afternoon.
The SWTC provides an assessment and treatment service for donors and recipients of kidneys, and is supported by the provision of consultant and nurse led clinics.
