Students from Sir John Hunt Community College have redecorated the day room on Hartor Ward, giving it a complete makeover.
In just under two days, a team of Year 13 students have transformed the patients’ day room and the finished look is remarkable.
Sarah Carlson, the Hartor Ward Matron, said: “I think it’s absolutely fantastic. It will allow the patients to relax in a calm environment, and all the added detail will work really well as a distraction technique for anyone distressed or feeling overwhelmed.”
The students decided to create a nautical theme, as many of the male patients on Hartor Ward have a naval background and it will encourage them to feel more comfortable.
Sarah also added that: “After seeing the finished result, we are now hoping to use the kitchen for our Occupational Therapy kitchen assessments. It will make it easier for the patients as they won’t have to leave the ward and it will help with recreating the feel of their home environment.”
We’re sure you will agree that the students and staff have done a brilliant job – well done!
