GP and hospital patient notes linked with ‘GP Connect’

GP Connect is a service that allows GP practices and authorised clinical staff to share and view GP practice information and data between IT systems, quickly and efficiently.

The service recently implemented at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust will make patient medical information available to clinicians when and where they need it, leading to improvements in care.

Jason Scott, Enterprise Solutions Architect at UHP said: “We knew that giving clinicians secure and easy access to as much patient information as possible at the point of care would have clear benefit, especially bridging the information divide between GPs and hospital staff. The GP Connect system was an obvious choice and the results are even better than we had hoped”.

Aileen Coupe, Consultant in Acute Medicine, said: “We find that it has vastly improved our clinical care of the patient, as well as our efficiency of being able to clerk them into the hospital.

“Enquiries that would have previously taken several hours (drug reconciliation out of hours, previous diagnoses in a patient who is confused, recent contacts with GP) are being completed within minutes.”
