We are delighted to share the news that Dr Mark Hamilton will be joining us as our new Medical Director.
Following a competitive process, Mark has been appointed to the role and will replace Phil Hughes, who is retiring after seven years in post.
Mark, a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, will join us from St. George’s University Hospital Foundation Trust where he has worked since 2006.
As well as considerable clinical expertise and experience of working across integrated care systems, Mark also brings with him a Masters in Leadership and Quality Improvement as part of the GenerationQ Health foundation improvement fellowship program.
Mark said: “I am delighted to join University Hospitals Plymouth at such an exciting time for the Trust. The passion for the Trust and the community it serves is clear in all of you I have spoken to and is reflected in the outstanding care you provide for patients. We have a generational opportunity to shape care for the patients of Devon and Cornwall through getting the basics right, our new clinical strategy to inform the investment in better designed buildings and integrated care to help manage demand. This will allow us to provide truly outstanding and world class services for patients and continue to be a great place for staff to work. I look forward to meeting and getting to know many more of you over the next few months and helping to lead the Trust through this next exciting chapter in Derriford’s history."
Chief Executive Ann James said: “We’re delighted to have appointed Mark, he brings with him significant experience and expertise. We’re really looking forward to him joining our #1BigTeam. His expertise in intensive care medicine, clinical leadership, and quality improvement will further strengthen our organisation and our People First programme, which is all about empowering teams with improvement methodology to make changes that benefit patients and staff.”
Mark will join University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust in January 2021.*
