Orthodontics: Information for Healthcare Professionals

Who works in the orthodontic department?

The work of the orthodontic team at Derriford mainly involves the treatment of patients with complex orthodontic needs.

There are three orthodontic consultants: Karen Drage, Roger Robinson & Dr Jules Scott, two Specialist Registrars in training and 3 clinical assistants.

The consultants see all the new patients on their initial visit, to provide advice and or suggest treatment. No treatment is carried out at the initial visit.

Which patients can we accept for treatment?
Patients with an Index of Treatment Need of 4 or 5, the medically compromised, or patients requiring multidisciplinary treatment.

We are unable to see patients of 18 years or over unless they have significant functional or dental health problems.

What we need from you
When referring a patient, please ensure that you provide all relevant demographic details, including telephone number and name & address of their General Medical Practitioner.

Please give details of the problem(s) and Index of Treatment Need grade.

Routine dental care throughout orthodontic treatment is vital. We appreciate your help with this.
