Elections 2009

As part of our move to become more accountable to the community, we are delighted to announce that the process for holding elections to the Council of Governors for the (proposed) Plymouth University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has now closed and our election results can be viewed here.

The Notice of Election can be accessed by clicking here.

There were elections for nineteen public Governors in the following constituencies:

  • Plymouth (11 Governors)
  • Devon (4 Governors)
  • Cornwall (4 Governors)

There were elections for six staff Governors, one in each of the following constituencies:

  • Nursing and Midwifery Services
  • Medical and Dental
  • Admin and Clerical, Management, Hospital Chaplains and Estates Staff
  • Health Professionals
  • Volunteers
  • Contracted Staff

Foundation Trust members in the above constituencies were eligible to stand for election and you had to be a member to vote for your choice of candidate.

We wanted to ensure that all our constituencies were well represented and the Trust held a series of information sessions for the public to find out what being a Governor entails.  Information sessions for staff also took place.

The election process was being managed on the Trust’s behalf by Electoral Reform Services, an independent and highly experienced organisation which operates within all relevant legislation and best practice guidance. The election was held through a secret postal ballot.

A briefing document for potential Governors can be found on our website by clicking here.
