We will change our name to include the words ‘NHS Foundation Trust when we are authorised. We also want to include something else in our name: the word ‘University’.
As a Trust, we have developed and continue to develop as a centre for academic and research excellence, as well as our role in supporting high class multi-professional teaching and learning. We think this role is extremely important for the future.
Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust is the largest hospital trust in the south west peninsula. It is a teaching trust in partnership with the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, the University of Plymouth and College of St Mark and St John who train health professionals. We have strong links with these institutions. The headquarters of the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry is named after our former chairman, John Bull, in recognition of the part he played in establishing the new medical school. It is important that our role in education and research is reflected in our name.
