Staff serve food in the main entrance
To mark the introduction of a new nutrition and mealtimes policy, Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust hosted a display and demonstration of hospital food in the main entrance to Derriford Hospital on Thursday 4th February 2010.
The aim of the day was to show people what food at the Trust is like and to underline the Trust’s commitment to healthy and nutritious hospital food, served in the right way.
Madeline Jephcott, Deputy Director of Nursing and Governance at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust said: “Nutrition is as important for the recovery of our patients as taking their medication.
“Patients should be given the right food, they should be able to eat in a relaxed environment and they should be able to rest properly afterwards.”
There will be a meal trolley at the event from which members of the public can taste the food that inpatients receive at the Trust.
In addition, the Trust’s Diatetics Department hosted a display about what they do and the importance of proper nutrition. There was also a display from Appetito, the providers of food at the Trust.
Ms. Jephcott continued: “We work hard at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust to ensure that the right things happen at patient mealtimes. This day will be about showing people how much thought goes into what food is served to patients at our hospitals and how we serve it.”
