Consultant Anaesthetist

Dr Alex Mayor qualified at University College and Middlesex Hospitals, Medical School in London in 1986.  Following postgraduate training in Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine in the South West and subspecialty training in Paediatric Anaesthesia at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Baltimore, USA, he was appointed as Consultant Anaesthetist and Lead Clinician for Paediatric Anaesthesia at the Royal United Hospital, Bath in 1996. In 2001 he was appointed as an Associate Medical Director with responsibility for Clinical Governance. 

In 2003 he took up a post as Consultant Anaesthetist here at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust. He was appointed as Associate Medical Director for Clinical Governance at PHT in 2005 and Medical Director (Professional Practice) in 2008.

Throughout his medical career, as well as being a sub-specialist paediatric anaesthetist, Alex has developed a specialist interest in all aspects of clinical governance, in particular designing and implementing processes for improving patient safety and quality of clinical care.
