Welcome to the Plymouth Oesophago-Gastric Cancer Centre website

The Plymouth Oesophago-Gastric Cancer Centre sees and treats patients suffering with suspected cancer of the stomach and oesophagus. It is both a local and the tertiary referral service that provides care to patients in the South West Peninsula.  It runs alongside the regional Cardiothoracic Surgery Centre and regional Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary centre, both located here in Plymouth.

The specialist team consists of 5 consultant surgeons, 5 consultant gastroenterologists, 2 consultant oncologists, 4  gastro-intestinal  consultant radiologists, 2 consultant palliative care physicians, 2 upper gastro intestinal cancer nurse specialists, and 2 consultant histopathologists. The surgeons work closely as a single team and provide 24/7 (round the clock) cover for the unit.

Since 2006, minimally invasive oesophagectomy, a keyhole operation, has been performed in Plymouth. This approach has the potential advantage of allowing an earlier recovery after surgery.

Our staff are committed to providing high quality, personalised care in a safe and comfortable environment.  Please follow the links on the left hand side of the page to access the information.
