Non-invasive ventilation provides support to the lungs using a mask or similar device attached to an electrically operated ventilator. Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust provides a home ventilation service which is accessed by over 150 patients with neuromuscular, muscular-skeletal or respiratory problems in Devon and Cornwall. The team is led by Dr Philip Hughes an experienced respiratory consultant and Jon Palmer, a nurse consultant, who has worked with ventilator patients for over 10 years. They are assisted by Vicky Cook an experienced specialist nurse and a team of clerical, technical and physiology staff. The team work closely with the staff on Honeyford, Hexworthy and the Planned Investigation wards at Derriford Hospital as well as community teams to ensure that the service we provide is of the highest possible standard.
This website has been developed for ventilator users and their carers; it is not a replacement for seeking advice from the team at Derriford or your GP but does provide information about the service and the use of ventilators and oxygen in the home. Please contact us if you have queries or concerns.
