The Annual Health Check is the new system for assessing and rating the performances of NHS healthcare organisations in England. It replaces the old ‘star’ ratings and clinical governance reviews, and is more comprehensive and detailed than ever before. The Healthcare Commission’s report into quality of service is based on four key elements – the core standards (split into 44 parts), existing national targets, new national targets and service reviews.
