There is the option to have almost any outpatient procedure carried out privately within Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

Common outpatient procedures performed privately include; Cardiology examinations such as Echocardiography and 24 Hour Holter Monitoring, Neurophysiological examinations such as Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Studies, Pulmonary function tests, Audiograms and Gynaecological scans.

Minor surgical procedures such as biopsies and nerve root block injections can also be carried out as a private outpatient.

Radiology / Medical Imaging
Derriford's South West Cardiac Imaging Centre is one of a few hospitals in the country to have a High-Definition CT Scanner, which puts Derriford at the cutting edge of imaging. We perform weekly High-Definition Cardiac CT scans on the new scanner.

Our turnaround for private routine CT and MRI scans from referral to report are typically around one working week and can be as quick as two days depending on availability. 
Ultrasounds can be arranged just as quickly but rely on the availability of the consultant radiologist.

Some non-routine scans may have special requirements and rely on the availability of a consultant radiologist, specially trained radiographers or equipment. Private plain film xrays can also be arranged for emigration visa or medico-legal purposes.

Your images will be stored digitally on the National Health’s imaging systems and will be made available for use by your consultant regarding further treatment; additional copies of your images can be provided on a disk.
As private imaging is regarded as a standalone episode, you will not be bound to undertake any resulting treatment privately.
