Choosing Greener, one year review

It gives the Sustainability Team great pleasure to announce the first birthday of our staff sustainable behaviour programme, Choosing Greener, which has focussed on embedding sustainable behaviours, helping us to do our bit for the environment.

The actions in Choosing Greener cover all areas of sustainability and wellbeing such as energy reduction, carbon reduction, waste reduction and health and wellness. Staff have been awarded green points for their activities, which have turned into rewards for those who have come top on our leader board.

We’ve added additional activities over the past year as new areas have been identified, such as a sustainable travel club, switching search engines to Ecosia, encouraging completion of net zero training, low carbon recipes, recruitment of Green Champions and identifying opportunities to reduce waste at UHP.

Since the programme launch in February 2022, staff who have joined the programme fed back that the programme is beneficial in not only prompting greener thoughts but also in changing behaviours permanently.

Staff have also had the opportunity to tune in to some great webinars via the programme, such as information on cleaner energy and efficiency, biodiversity, health and climate change, and different forms of activism and the challenges we face to make a difference.

So thank you to all the staff who have participated in the programme. Every activity completed impacts on our individual footprint, but also embeds those behaviours in the workplace, thus contributing to UHP’s Green Plan commitments to reduce its carbon footprint.

If you still haven’t joined, you can sign up here: https://choosinggreeneruhp.greenrewards.co.uk/

Looking ahead, we have some exciting enhancements coming to the programme, and some new activities to get involved with. So, watch this space and keep Choosing Greener.

As part of the rebranding of our recruitment materials, you can watch how we are promoting our sustainability commitment to prospective new colleagues in the video below:
