Skin Cancer Nursing Service

Ruth Devlin

Ruth Devlin is our Lead Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist. She is part of the multi-disciplinary team working towards improving the quality of care for people with skin cancer.  As a Nurse Specialist, she is available to:

  • help co-ordinate patient care from diagnosis to treatment and through to follow up care 
  • be a familiar face who can provide support for patients and their families
  • provide information on tests, investigations and treatment options
  • offer support and advice on symptom control
  • provide a link to other professionals and support services 

Background and experience
Ruth is a qualified Registered  General Nurse. Her nursing career has been spent in cancer care. She has a BSc (Hons) in Cancer Nursing and a BSc (Hons) in Community Health Care Nursing. She worked on the cancer ward at Derriford Hospital for 10 years before spending another 10 years as a Community Macmillan Nurse. She is also a qualified District Nurse.

Jill Daniels 

As a Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist, Jill works closely with Ruth Devlin to provide support and advice to any patient and their family, with a diagnosis of skin cancer.  Jill’s role is to co-ordinate care from the point of diagnosis, through investigations to treatment and follow-up care.
Background and experience
Jill is a registered general nurse and holds a BSc in Health Studies with specialist modules in Dermatology and Wound Care. 
Jill has worked as a specialist nurse in dermatology for 19 years; in both hospital and community services.  Her experience covers most aspects of managing skin disease; including chronic skin conditions and delivering Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) for simple skin lesions and pre-cancerous skin changes.

Diana Morgan

As a surgical Nurse Practitioner, Diana is part of the surgical team for skin cancer. Diana has her own ‘minor ops’ lists everyday.  Patients are pre-selected by the consultant to attend these lists.

Background and experience
Diana has been a registered general nurse for 22 years with the first twelve years being spent in the operating department.  In 2007, Diana completed the Royal College of Surgeons- ‘Basic surgical Skills’ course and has she operated on over 5000 patients to date.

Linda Pollard

Linda (known to everyone as Polly) is a Specialist Wound Care Nurse for the Burns and Plastic Surgery department, she works closely with the plastic surgery teams and runs an outpatient clinic managing complex post-operative wounds. Polly liaises with the skin cancer nurses, surgeons and community teams, to ensure continuity of care. 

Background and experience
Polly is a registered general nurse and holds a BSc in Health and Social Care, with a module in wound care.  She has worked in ‘Burns and Plastic surgery for over thirty and has wide experience in all aspects of wound care.

Your Key Worker

Patients will be offered a named Key Worker who will be responsible for co-ordinating their care. The whole skin cancer team can be contacted via your key worker.
