Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust adopts the principle that lifelong learning is central to the delivery of modern, high quality and responsive patient care.
As such, Plymouth Hospitals Trust is committed to providing appropriate training and developmental opportunities to all staff groups and has adopted the NHS Skills Escalator as the framework to do this. Our training is designed to equip people with the skills and knowledge they need to undertake their jobs to the highest standard while developing themselves to progress in their careers. All staff are given the opportunity to discuss their work and draw up a personal development plan with their manager through the Trust’s appraisal system and their individual Knowledge and Skills Framework profile. Our learning provision is closely aligned with service need and workforce development enabling the Trust to respond to the health needs of our local community, ensuring our staff have the highest skills and knowledge possible to provide excellent patient care in all areas.
The Trust’s specialist in-house Training and Development Department runs a variety of courses. Training and Development, are linked to other departments in the Trust, like Health and Safety and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to provide staff with courses such as, National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), Open College network qualifications (OCN) professional management development programmes, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), clinical skills programmes, management and leadership development, health and safety, European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), cultural awareness and much more. The Trust is also an academic partner of the University of Plymouth providing on site modules at undergraduate and post graduate levels.
