Peninsula Medical School (PMS)
Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust is pleased to be one of the major partners of the Peninsula Medical School. The School was set up jointly with the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth and the first students started in October 2002. In 2007, the first students graduate and with the set up of new Dental School, the PMS was incorporated into the Peninsual College of Medicine and Dentistry. The administrative headquarters are on the Derriford site in the new award winning John Bull Building.
Medical Students attend the hospital for clinical attachments from Year 1. Most of the clinical teaching is in years 3 - 5. A wide variety of teaching methods are used and there are approximately 250 teaching contacts weekly. This is coordinated by the locality office based in the John Bull Building.
If you would like to help with teaching (as a healthcare worker or patient), we are always pleased to hear from you - there are a number of ways you can help - work placements, Special Study Units (2-3 weeks long), Clinical Skills Sessions or as Academic Tutor. Placements are offered between the fourth week of June and the end of August each year (see application form for exact dates).
