Freemasons Fundraisers Bring Festive Cheer to Staff

Freemasons donation to Crownhill ward

Plymouth Freemasons brought a delightful festive surprise to staff across Derriford when they turned up unexpectedly with Christmas treats and a £150 cheque.

Staff in Crownhill ward, the oncology department, the Macmillan Mustard Tree Centre as well as volunteers for charity Jeremiah’s Journey were excited to receive the mince pies and clotted cream brought by members of Plymouth’s Victory and St George MMM Freemasons Lodges.

Michael Duff, Director of Ceremonies for the lodges, said: “The staff here do such great work. It’s wonderful to do something nice for them.”

Crownhill Ward Manager Miaw-Wan Flanaghan said: “It was a lovely surprise and the money will probably be used to help buy some special tilting chairs that make life a lot easier for patients with breathing difficulties.

“The Freemasons have donated money before and gifts like this are so important because they can be used to make life more comfortable for our patients.”

The money for the surprise treats was raised through donations from members of the Freemason’s Lodges.
