AC2E (Appreciation, Civility, Compassion and Excellence)
May 2022 is our AC2E Leadership Month at UHP, bringing together a variety of activities and events to support, energise and influence you. No matter what your position at UHP we recognise that everyone steps into leadership at some point during their working day or week, whether that is acknowledged formally or not, and that we all have the opportunity and capability to influence our colleagues around us. So come and join in – the programme is designed to fit in around you, so you can dip in and out as your other commitments allow. We look forward to seeing you!
Check out the calendar below, which includes links to help you book on at a time that works for you, including some evening and early morning sessions (should the desire strike!)

The Art of Brilliance
Mike Martin
Thu, 26 May 2022, 14:00 – 15:15
Mike is an experienced leader with a strong track record of delivering transformational change in organisations. He’s properly clever [Physics degree, post-grad Biz Psychology, life-coach, NLP, Thought Pattern management, etc] but don’t let that put you off. Mike’s real quality is his disarming niceness, cracking sense of humour and an ever-so-slightly maverick approach to helping individuals and teams become the best they can be.
Safety, Appreciation, and Just and Learning Culture
Suzette Woodward
Tue, 24 May 2022, 12:30 – 14:00
Suzette Woodward has spent her life working in the NHS; first as a paediatric intensive care nurse and then for the last two decades as a patient safety specialist.
A former executive board director at the National Patient Safety Agency and the NHS Litigation Authority, she is currently leading the Sign up to Safety campaign for the NHS in England.
Suzette has an MSc in clinical risk and a doctorate in patient safety implementation.
Civility on Healthcare
Chris Turner
Thu, 5 May 2022, 12:00 – 13:30
When we condone rudeness in our teams, we accept poorer outcomes for our patients. Everything we do for our patients requires teamwork.
It may come as no surprise by now, that good teams perform better and this leads to better outcomes. We often think about what makes a good team; clear roles, good communication, a shared vision or goal come to mind easily. But how often do we consider the team culture in that? Feeling valued and respected as part of the team - do these matter?
Incivility can be anything ranging from rude or unsociable speech or behaviour. Importantly, it is as interpreted by the recipient.
Compassionate Leadership
Michael West
Wed, 11 May 2022, 13:00 – 14:30
Tue, 17 May 2022, 13:00 - 14:30
Michael West will talk for 45 mins about 4 themes: Compassionate leadership, Wellbeing, Team Working and Self Compassion followed 35/40mins Q&As from panel. Audience questions are invited through the chat function.
"Those who work in health and social care give inspiring support for the health, happiness and well-being of all – communities, societies and nations. Yet their workplaces often harm their own health and well-being, affecting care quality, motivation, patient satisfaction and corroding cultures of compassion...It is a call for leaders to nurture compassion within themselves and across health and social care institutions, to support healthier and happier institutions and communities. It challenges leaders at every level to have the courage and authenticity to embody compassion in their leadership now and for the long-term future."
