Update on Tavistock MIU

Image of Tavistock Hospital*Updated 25/09/2019*

We are sorry to announce that we are being forced to temporarily close Tavistock Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) for a period of three months (until Tuesday 5 November 2019). This is due to staffing shortages that we cannot overcome in the short term.

The Unit is usually open from 09:00 to 22:00 seven days a week, but over the past few months it has become harder to keep the unit open due to our small team being affected by unplanned absence.

We have no choice but to temporarily close the unit for three months to allow time to build up our team working across the three MIUs at The Cumberland Centre, Kingsbridge and Tavistock.

Patients who would normally use Tavistock MIU can use the Cumberland Centre or visit the Minor Injuries Units in Liskead, Launceston or Okehampton. Details for these units can be found here. If you are registered with the below GP practices, they also offer a Minor Injury Service:

  • Abbey
  • Tavyside
  • Yelverton
  • Okehampton  (open to all, including non-registered patients).

Tavistock MIU sees an average of around 23 patients a day.

If anyone has any queries, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01752 439884.

Please note this only affects the MIU at Tavistock, the rest of Tavistock Hospital will remain open as usual.
