Dr T Bracey Consultant Histopathologist and Cytopathologist

General information:
Cornishman Dr Bracey graduated from the University of Bristol with MBCHB Medicine and a PhD in Experimental Oncology. He also received 1st Class Honours in Applied Biology and the prize for Microbiology for the isolation of a novel cell division cycle gene from Bath University in 1993. He subsequently published several first author papers on the role p53 tumour suppressor gene in human colorectal cancer 1995-1997. After house jobs, a brief stint in Emergency Medicine in Western Australia, and basic surgical training in Bristol he trained in Histopathology and returned to the Peninsula, being recruited as a Consultant at PHNT in November 2010.

General Histopathologist responsible for the investigation and diagnosis of human disease
Multidisciplinary Team member forming part of the decision making in cancer management
Autopsy pathologist performing postmortems and investigating deaths in conjunction with HM Coroner


Particular areas of expertise:
Barrett’s oesophagus and upper gastrointestinal cancer (lead pathologist for the regional Upper GI cancer service based at PHNT)
Head and Neck cancers, and one-stop cytological diagnosis / triage of patients with neck lumps
Inflammatory and neoplastic skin disorders
Prognostic and predictive biomarkers in neoplasia
Dr Bracey is a keen teacher and trainer, having designed and maintained several web-based training modules
