Lindsay, Training Officer
I started working for the NHS 2 years ago after 13 years as a school kitchen manager. I saw how much the NHS did throughout the covid outbreak and felt inspired to work for them.
Originally I secured a position as an evening Housekeeper within Hotel Services, serving patients with meals and refreshments on the wards - needless to say, there was a lot to learn! I worked on Brent ward for a total of 6 months.
My evening supervisor then told me about a secondment role which was available. She felt it would really suit me so with that encouragement, I thought, why not have ago! I secured an interview and to my surprise I was offered the secondment role along with two others. Within 3 months of the secondment role a permanent evening supervisor position became available, so I went for it! After another rigorous interview, I was offered the position.
I enjoyed the role of Evening Supervisor for a year when I then saw a vacancy notice for a training officer position working alongside the training manager. I had really enjoyed the training I received as a Housekeeper and love talking and interacting with people so I took a giant leap of faith and applied for the job. I was successful in my application! I started my new job in July ‘23 and absolutely love it, within two years I went from Housekeeper band 2, to Supervisor band 3, and now a Training Officer band 4. It has involved a lot of hard work and I have had to learn a lot of new skills, but I really enjoy coming to work and helping train my colleagues from across the directorate.
