Type 1 diabetes is an ongoing condition which requires daily medication (insulin injections) and monitoring.
When you are first diagnosed there is much to learn. The nurse that you meet at diagnosis will help you to learn how to inject your insulin, monitor your blood glucose levels and balance your diet.
We would like to invite you along to a group to learn more about your diabetes. At this group there will be 4-8 other people who have recently been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (within the last 6 months). You can bring a friend or family member along too.
The group is run by a Diabetes Dietitian and Diabetes Specialist Nurse (DSN).
The two sessions are held one week apart and each session lasts for approximately three and a half hours. Refreshments will be provided.
The sessions will cover many aspects of living with diabetes, such as:
-
The role of insulin and your injections.
-
When to monitor your blood glucose.
-
Dietary advice.
-
What hypos are and how to treat them.
-
Advice on activities (exercise, driving).
-
How to manage sickness.
-
What diabetes care to expect.
If you are interested in attending this group please contact Val or Sonia on 01752 439802. This is a rolling programme and your name will be added to a list and we will contact you in due course.
