Logistics team take on over 6,000 miles for Plymouth Hospitals Charity

The Logistics team have embarked on a 6,389 mile virtual cycle, covering the distance from Plymouth to Wuhan, China.

Logistics Manager, John Fyffe contracted COVID back in March 2020 and was admitted to Derriford Hospital for treatment. John was discharged but unfortunately suffered from long COVID which left him feeling unwell for months, suffering multiple blood clots in his lung and an enlarged heart.

John’s illness kept him from working for seven months which sadly resulted in him losing the job he was in at the time. After focusing on his recovery, John joined the team at University Hospitals Plymouth. “I eventually managed to battle through this illness and ironically I was offered the role of Logistics Manager at the NHS COVID19 Laboratory in Plymouth and started my fightback vs COVID19 in January this year,” said John.

Logistics Manager, John Fyffe“I am so proud to say that my Logistics team at the COVID lab are willing to do the hard miles to achieve this mammoth challenge. The general public should be so grateful to this dedicated team who process 30,000 samples every day and I am so lucky to work alongside such dedicated, professional people.”

The team started their stationary bike cycle just after midnight on Monday 8th November and have already racked up 1,638 miles in their first week. They’ve got a long way to go but the whole team are really passionate about giving something back to thank the frontline staff who are still fighting the COVID battle.
