Staff invited to switch on Plymouth city centre Christmas lights

We are delighted that five members of staff have been invited to switch on the Christmas lights in Plymouth City Centre on Thursday 18 November.

Staff from University Hospitals Plymouth (UHP) who were nominated by their colleagues for the hard work and dedication they’ve shown throughout the pandemic, include:

  • Marie Whitley, former Matron for Home Park Mass Vaccination Centre and Clinical Head of Governance
  • Girish Viswanathan, Consultant Cardiologist and Service Line Director for Cardiology
  • Makala Sperduti, Hotel Services Team (providing cleaning and catering for patients)
  • Naomi Lean, Team Lead Occupational Therapist for Emergency Care and Covid
  • Kelly James, Staff Nurse

Trees with colourful Christmas lights The Christmas Lights Switch-on event will start at 4pm at Plymouth Armada Piazza and includes an amazing line-up of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

Steve Hughes, Chief Executive of Plymouth City Centre Company, said:

“We’re delighted that NHS staff will be joining us to turn on the lights this year. They have worked so hard during the pandemic and done so much to support the people of Plymouth, and this is our chance to say a big thank you. Come on down to the event to show your support and we can guarantee you’ll be feeling festive in no time at all!”

Ann James, Chief Executive of UHP, said: “We felt privileged to be asked to take part in this event, in our local community which has shown us real support and affection during a difficult last two years. Our staff, like many others across Plymouth, worked incredibly hard to maintain services and keep giving the best possible care they could to patients. So many of them have given so much, it was difficult to choose who would represent our #1BigTeam as we have more than 10,000 amazing individuals. I hope our representatives and everyone who attends the lights switch-on has a wonderful time.”

Don’t miss the big switch-on moment, which is due to take place between 6pm and 6.30pm.
