Dr Peter Murphy
Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist
Dr Murphy graduated from St Thomas’ Hospital (London) in 1983. He undertook his anaesthetic training at St Mary’s Hospital (London), the St Thomas’ Hospital Registrar Training Rotation, Great Ormond Street, The South West Senior Registrar Training Rotation and St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne.
He was appointed as a consultant anaesthetist in 1993 and set up the anaesthetic and intensive care services for the South West Cardiothoracic Unit which opened in 1997. Peter has extensive medical management experience having served as Clinical Director of the Cardiothoracic Directorate, the Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Directorate and the Respiratory Medicine Directorate. He has also been an Assistant Medical Director and Care Group Director for eleven medical specialties.
Peter is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and a member of the Interventional Procedures Advisory Committee for NICE.
