  • Helping researchers to identify and apply for funding.
  • Costing applications for external funding.
  • Costing internally funded research projects.
  • Costing departments' contributions to projects.
  • Managing research income and expenditure.

NIHR Funding Opportunities
Current research funding opportunities for researchers, research teams and organisations are listed on the NIHR website.

Medical Research Council
You can apply at any time within one of our science areas through the following response mode funding schemes.

  • New investigator research grant
  • Research grant
  • Programme grant
  • Partnership grant
  • Highlight notices

Applications are assessed by the relevant board or panel. Information on how the MRC fund research can be found here and you can browse funding opportunities here.

British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
Funders have a whole range of criteria for applications. They might have targeted population groups and priorities for funding, so if you are looking at a research project for counselling children and young people in schools, some of the funders who may consider funding such a project will be different to those, that for example, might fund a research project about counselling for asylum seekers. So the funding opportunities listed here may be relevant for some projects and not others. Click here for the research funding database (funding opportunities are regularly uploaded).

Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)
Through Bioscience for Health, BBSRC provides sustained research investment to improve health and wellbeing across the life course, reducing the need for medical and social intervention. Fundamental bioscience is vital to revealing the mechanisms underlying normal physiology and homeostatic control during early development and across the lifespan into old age. The Bioscience for Health priority aims to achieve a deep, integrated understanding of the 'healthy system' at multiple levels, and of the factors that maintain health and wellness under stress and biological or environmental challenge. Funding details can be found here.

Winston Churchill Memorial Trust
Each year more than 100 Fellowships are awarded for a wide range of projects. The Fellowships provide a unique opportunity for British citizens to travel overseas to bring back fresh ideas and new solutions to today’s issues, for the benefit of others in the UK. Click here for more information.
