Thank you for the kind donations to our childrens wards

The Play Service team and all staff working on Derriford’s childrens wards would like to say a big thank you to everyone who gave donations or brought in gifts in the lead-up to Christmas.

One donation came from the Quality Assurance and Improvement Team (QAIT) at Plymouth City Council, who chose to buy and collect toys for the children instead of doing secret santa this year. They also asked for donations from their colleagues and care home providers across the city, which enabled them to purchase nearly 50 toys, books and puzzles in total.

“It was really important for us to give something to the children, who may have to spend their Christmas in hospital,” said Caroline Paterson, Strategic Commissioning Manager at Windsor House.

Donations were also received from Miller Town & Country Estate Agents (Tavistock and Okehampton), Asda’s Plymouth store in Estover, Morrison’s Plymstock store and First Glance Beauty and Hair Salon based in Tavistock. Staff Governor of Prince Rock Primary School Samantha Upton also brought gifts, as did former student nurse Stacey Wiseman, who wanted to make sure that teenagers also received appropriate gifts.

Sue Rodgers, Play Service Team Leader at Derriford Hospital and Fundraising Co-ordinator for the Children’s Happy Hospital Fund said: “We’d like to thank everyone for their support of our children’s wards. They really appreciate having these gifts to open over the festive time.”
