Changes to blue badge parking car park F

Changes to blue badge parking car park F
As of Sunday 5 May, there will be temporary changes to car park F (blue badge parking).

Due to changes to the site, it will be closed to cars. This is because the temporary mobile units used for Ophthalmology and Endoscopy are being removed. It is anticipated that contractors will hand the site back over to the Trust on 14 June.

Alternative blue badge parking is available in car park A and the multistorey car park. There will be stewards on hand to direct people to the next available space. We are sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

  • Please ensure no cars are parked in car park F from Sunday 5 May from 6pm.
  • Pedestrians, please take extra care to follow the signs and do not cross the construction site.

For any questions regarding blue badge parking, contact the parking desk: email plh-tr.uhpparkingpermits@nhs.net

Background

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust currently has 187 blue badge and dementia spaces. The Government states that for all public and private car parks, 6% should be given to blue badge holders. The Department for Transport states where they should be, which is as close to entrances as possible. Derriford hospital currently has 15% blue badge parking in total and has disabled spaces in every car park as close as possible to the buildings.

In 2022 the government released an update to parking for healthcare and NHS services which states who should get free parking. Since then, all blue badge parking nationally at every hospital has been free.

Parking for patients and the public

Graphic detailing headings; less queuing, improved access, green travel plans, new technology, we will continue to listen We know that parking at Derriford is not perfect, and we are working on it. There are still improvements to be made and we are monitoring the parking situation closely and are committed to the following as part of our Transport Strategy:

  1. Less queuing
We’ve made some changes to parking recently that have increased public and patient parking spaces, meaning that if you come to Derriford now, you shouldn’t have to queue to get a space. We commit to maintaining the overall number of spaces on our site, even as we develop our buildings.

  2. Improved access
We are committed to supporting our diverse community to access our site. This includes blue badge and dementia friendly parking. We have a shuttle bus to help people get around and blue badge holders continue to park for free.

  3. New technology
As well as new signage, we are looking into new technology such as an app that lets you know where there are spaces, and working with our city transport partners on a Mobility Hub, and these should all make parking easier in the future.

  4. Green travel plan
We are committed to our green travel plan and promoting sustainable travel methods. We'll continue to work with Plymouth City Council to ensure that getting to Derriford by public transport will be as easy as possible.

  5. We will continue to listen.
We know parking at Derriford is not perfect. We will continue to listen to your feedback and make changes when we feel these will further benefit our patients.
