Valiant display by Estates Team raises funds for children

Estates donation to Children Happy Hospital Fund

Estates donation to Children Happy Hospital Fund Despite finishing their race minus two paddles, a broken flag pole and a bent and battered metal frame, the valiant efforts of colleagues from our Estates Mechanical and Electrical Team, who took on the Totnes Raft Race in October, helped to raise an admirable £492 for the children’s wards at Derriford Hospital.

This was the first time the team took part in the annual race, also known as the River Dart Struggle, and were up against 60 other rafts. The team completed the challenge in three hours and 27 minutes, finishing in 27th place and, upon completion and whilst warming up, were presented with their medals by the Mayor of Totnes.

“What a tremendous effort by the team! It looks as though it was a great day and I have no doubt the warm drinks were very much needed after the race!” expressed Sue Rodgers, Play Specialist Team Leader. “On behalf of the Children’s Happy Hospital Fund, I would like to say a big thank you to the team for their efforts and supporting us to raise funds for our children’s wards.

“Our aim is to enhance the facilities on the children’s wards and provide a child-friendly environment for all that have to stay on level 12.”

Thanks go to Zack Ham and Sam Cogley who did the bulk of the construction, as well as paddling. Other team members were; Ritchie Butchers, Phil Lomas, Chris Wills, Nathan Ellis, Chris Lyall, and Dan Arscott.

The Children’s Happy Hospital Fund aims to make a difference for all young patients, for their families and carers both in hospital and at home. If you would like to find out more or to help fundraise for Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, please visit: http://bit.ly/PHNTfundraising
