Beryl Bikes' Popularity Motoring Ahead

The UKs leading micromobility provider, Beryl, have linked up with Plymouth City Council to create a network of electric bikes around the city, giving thousands of people access to sustainable travel.

Currently, 100 parking bays are dotted around the city, with 350 Beryl e-bikes available for use, including some at Derriford Hospital and the George Junction Park and Ride. Uptake has so far been extremely popular, with PCC quoting 15,000 journeys being made between launch date and 23 June 2023. Staff registering with the introductory offer made available through the Trust have travelled over 400km in total!

How does the bike work?

All Beryl e-bikes are fitted with an electric motor, offering pedal-assist up the tricky hills around Plymouth. The lightweight frame has an adjustable saddle, making it suitable for riders with heights between 4’11” and 6’5”. The bikes also come with features such as automatic lights to increase visibility and keep the rider safe, and a handy 10kg basket for any luggage that needs to be transported. To unlock the bikes, a contactless system can be used through the app, making unlocking and securing the bike simple and easy.

What costs are involved?

There are two options for Beryl bikes, a pay-as-you-ride option, or the minute bundles. The pay-as-you-ride option has a £1.00 unlock fee, and then costs 15p/minute, so is perfect for single rides or occasional journeys. The Minute bundles range from £7.50 for 50 minutes, to £60 for 400 minutes, and the unlock fee is waived for this option, meaning its best for multiple rides.
