UHP are Big Plymouth Travel Champions
This June, University Hospitals Plymouth took part in the Plymouth City Council supported scheme known as ‘Big Plymouth Travel Challenge’. The challenge is a fun, free tool designed to boost your health and wellbeing and reduce carbon emissions whilst you’re at it. A team from UHP joined up and collected badges on their way up the leader board…
Far from being in vain, their efforts propelled UHP’s team to first place in the 10-19 category! By choosing to cycle, walk or run to work instead of drive, the team’s 232 journeys prevented 161kg of CO2 from being emitted, saved £3293.98, and burnt 71,130 calories. Cycling seems to have come out on top as being the easiest way to burn calories, save money and CO2- Indeed, cycling was the team’s most commonly chosen method of sustainable transport, totalling 742 miles in June. The website for the Big Plymouth Travel Challenge has lots more data stored on UHP’s success- if numbers are your thing, check it out by following this link:

In recognition of the team’s efforts, UHP received a £50 voucher that has been donated to Plymouth Hospitals Charity. This result gives the sustainability team a warm, fuzzy feeling as we imagine how this donation could go on make a patient’s hospital experience more bearable. Seemingly, there is no end to the benefits of switching to a sustainable travel choice!
