UHP's Annual Sustainability Report 2022/23

Over the past 12 months, the Trust has continued to embed its sustainability programme into the organisation following the update of its Green Plan. Encompassing sustainability in its broadest sense, the programme aligns with initial expectations set out by NHS England for NHS Trusts and Integrated Care Systems in order to deliver a Net Zero Carbon NHS, as well as social value considerations commensurate with the Trust’s responsibilities as an anchor institution in Plymouth.

This report provides an update on the Trust’s progress towards both its corporate objectives articulated in the Green Plan and the principal risks set out in the Board Assurance Framework (BAF), and its responsibilities to report and deliver on achieving a net zero carbon estate by 2040. Broader sustainability commitments in terms of behavioural change, procurement plans and collaboration initiatives with partners are also included.

The Trust’s sustainability vision is to continue to provide safe, consistent care, while achieving greener estates and operations that are fit for the future. This means integrating sustainability into decisions for patient care, all staff, contractors and suppliers. It means embedding a holistic, collaborative, and preventative approach to health.

To achieve this vision, we have six ambition areas, highlighted within the document, coupled with progress to date and plans for the year ahead. These ambitions are assessed on a year-on-year basis within the sustainability report. Click here to access our Annual Sustainability Report 2022/23.
