Dr Julia Bird

Doctorate in Clinical Psychology

General information:

Dr Bird joined the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Team in 2013, providing support to families who have a child on the unit. She also provides general psychological services to adults and families across the hospital.

General areas of expertise:

  • Supporting individuals and families, commonly through a ‘talking’ therapy.

Particular areas of expertise:

Dr Bird has a particular interest in attachment, trauma and the ways in which the ‘social’ impacts on psychological health. On the NICU in particular, this might mean exploring the ways in which women and their partners may have anticipated pregnancy, birth or parenthood and how this impacts on their wellbeing when faced with an unanticipated and often frightening situation.

Contact Details:

  • For parents with a child on the NICU, contacted via the NICU receptionists.
  • Alternatively, contact the Clinical Health Psychology Secretary on 01752 439779.
