Cardiac Surgery Nursing

Our area: Braunton Ward

This is a 26 bedded ward providing pre and post-operative care for patients having various Cardiac surgical procedures. Patients come from all across the South West to receive specialised care from the cohesive multidisciplinary team currently residing on Braunton ward.

The ward team is overseen by Ward Manager Nia Thielmann and Matron Sarah Pickbourne.

Why work for us

The cardiac ward has a friendly and welcoming environment with a large team providing a varied amount of expertise and experience. Our staff have the opportunity to enlist on an internal 6 month Cardiothoracic surgical care module (40 credits degree level) course to gain experience in the Cardiac ICU/HDU and the thoracic unit supported by our specialised in house Educators. Our staff have access to our specialised induction program which runs alongside the trust preceptorship program. We encourage our staff to participate in supervising trainee nursing staff and this is encompassed into our yearly Mandatory Block Training. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in ward co-ordination and team leadership skills supported by the ward Senior and Junior Sisters.
