Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery
Across two wards, we cover cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery. We provide specialist care for patients across the peninsula, both elective and emergency admissions. We provide care for cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery and chest trauma patients. We accept patients from the emergency department, the surgical assessment unit, theatre, insensitive care and other hospitals across the southwest.
We have 10 level one beds within our thoracic ward providing safe higher dependency care within a ward setting. The cardiac surgery ward works closely with the cardiac intensive care unit to provide care. We have an established university module, the principles and practices of cardiothoracic surgery, ran by our clinical education team.
