Consultant in Anaesthesia with a Major Interest in Paediatric Anaesthesia
Dr Ferguson trained and qualified as a doctor at the University of Dundee graduating with Honours in 1985 after a period as a Carnegie Scholar at the University of Florida.
His early medical training covered both medicine and child health and subsequent training has been in all aspects of anaesthesia, but with a special emphasis on paediatrics and intensive care. This training occurred mainly in Southampton / Wessex and Dr Ferguson was appointed a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1991. Subsequent to this, he had a two year fellowship to the Children’s Hospital in Sydney.
Dr Ferguson was appointed to Derriford Hospital as a Consultant in 1998 and has ongoing experience in all aspects of anaesthesia.
General areas of expertise:
Adult and paediatric anaesthesia and intensive care including pain management.
Particular areas of expertise:
Management of all aspects of children’s anaesthesia including psychological preparation. Dr Ferguson has experience in management of difficult airways in both adults and children.
