Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Dr Hooper trained at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in London qualifying in 1996. Having worked across the country and New Zealand, he trained in palliative medicine in the east midlands before starting his consultant post at Derriford Hospital in 2008.

General areas of expertise:

Dr Hooper works with St Luke’s Hospice in Derriford Hospital and the community alongside a multi-disciplinary team. His focus is supporting individuals with difficult physical or emotional symptoms. His role crosses primary and secondary care, as well as outpatient support.

Particular areas of expertise:

• Cancer pain

• Medical support in the community.

• Supporting and developing advance care planning at the End of Life.

• Undergraduate medical education in palliative medicine.
