Fred Thomas MP and UHP colleagues, Sally Fletcher, Linda Fulford, Roly Cawaing and Helen Anderson officially opening the Dartmoor building

There has been some change at UHP over the last month – we’ve welcomed new colleagues and said goodbye to others at board level, more patients are attending our new Urgent Treatment Centre on-site in the Dartmoor Building, and we’ve been recognised nationally for some advancements to patient care.

Buzzy devices donated to Paediatric Emergency Department as part of joint Social Value Strategy with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and Willmott Dixon

Patients in the Paediatric Children’s Emergency Department will benefit from the donation of two Buzzy Devices. A Buzzy, is a bee-shaped tool that uses vibration and cold to distract children and reduce needle pain, helping to make medical procedures less distressing for young patients.

Derriford Hospital Celebrates Opening of the Dartmoor Building

Today we celebrated the official opening of the Dartmoor Building at Derriford Hospital. The Dartmoor Building, which houses the new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), will soon also become home to other key hospital services such as the Fracture Clinic, Main Outpatients and Pre-operative assessment. The new, state-of-the-art building was officially opened today by Fred Thomas MP and UHP colleagues, Sally Fletcher, Linda Fulford, Roly Cawaing and Helen Anderson.

From Board to Ward – September 2025

Saoirse, Ben, Ali, and Darryn stood together at Board to Ward meeting

This month our Board leaders heard from Ben, who is autistic, about what helps him access and receive hospital care. Ben’s experience was welcomed and listened to intently as was a wider update from Saoirse and Ali from the Learning Disability and Autism Liaison team. The meeting also heard how we’re doing for patients needing urgent and emergency care, diagnostic tests and stroke thrombectomy as well as our plans for winter. We’ve created a summary of 3 highlights from this month’s Board leaders meeting.
