Colleagues from professions across University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP) came together in celebration of healthcare research at the Health and Care Research Conference 2024.

Health and care professionals from across the South West Peninsula were praised for their innovative and impactful research delivery and leadership at a prestigious three-day event last week.

Levi Haines was born fighting: “From a baby he had to deal with so much. The hospital was a second home for us, he must have visited all the departments,” explains his mother, Tracey Tookey. Tracey has continued his fight, deciding to pursue a career as a Health Care Assistant and work on the wards where Levi spent so much of his time.

Research teams from University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP) are collaborating on a new study that explores the vaginal surgical treatment options for women with pelvic organ prolapse.

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust has a new dedicated Children’s surgical unit. The unit has expanded its facilities for children and families, and provides three operating theatres, a dedicated entrance and drop off area for children and young people, an admission area including spaces for children with additional needs, and a large stage recovery area so that children can be discharged home directly without needing to be admitted into the hospital. The unit welcomed its first children and young people in February 2024.

Local college students were recently invited to a building site to find out about different careers in construction and learn about a very special building process currently being undertaken at University Hospitals Plymouth.

A cancer patient from Plymouth is the first to be recruited in the UK to a clinical trial investigating new drug combinations for people with multiple myeloma (blood cancer) who have not responded well to previous treatments.
