University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP) is pleased to announce the opening of the new Bigbury Orthopaedic Surgical Suite. The new surgical suite is now fully operational and saw its first patients go through the three dedicated elective orthopaedic theatres in June.

The Infection Prevention and Management team at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust were in the spotlight last month, as part of a national campaign to underline the importance of clinical audit and quality improvement in enhancing patient care.

Today we are pleased to share the news that following a competitive process Anthony Hemsley will be joining UHP as the joint Interim Chief Medical Officer

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust has a new dedicated Children’s surgical unit. The unit has expanded its facilities for children and families, and provides three operating theatres, a dedicated entrance and drop off area for children and young people, an admission area including spaces for children with additional needs, and a large stage recovery area so that children can be discharged home directly without needing to be admitted into the hospital. The unit welcomed its first children and young people in February 2024.

Local college students were recently invited to a building site to find out about different careers in construction and learn about a very special building process currently being undertaken at University Hospitals Plymouth.
