Patient of 91 years to officially open new REI building

96-year-old Robert Johns (aka Bob) has been a patient with the Royal Eye Infirmary (REI) since 1932, when he was referred as a 5-year-old to its previous location in the Mutley area of Plymouth. Having been treated for 91 years, he credits the care and treatment he has received over the decades for allowing him to live his life to the full, including having a successful career as an electrical engineer and even for meeting his wife!

Plymouth Youth Awards

Nominations have opened for the Plymouth Youth Awards, a ceremony dedicated to honouring exceptional young people from across the city. Taking place on 20 June 2024, the awards will recognise individuals up to the age of 18, who are making a positive impact in their community.

A new home for the Chestnut Unit

University Hospitals Plymouth’s Urology services (the Chestnut Unit) will soon move to its new home with access to extra space and state-of-the-art treatment rooms.

Work is underway on the Derriford Hospital site to redevelop the healthcare estate and make it fit for the future. The scheme of work, ‘Building for the Future’ will take place in a phased way over the next 10 years and will involve new developments as well as relocation of services, creating more space to care.
