Today we are pleased to share the news that following a competitive process Anthony Hemsley will be joining UHP as the joint Interim Chief Medical Officer

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust has a new dedicated Children’s surgical unit. The unit has expanded its facilities for children and families, and provides three operating theatres, a dedicated entrance and drop off area for children and young people, an admission area including spaces for children with additional needs, and a large stage recovery area so that children can be discharged home directly without needing to be admitted into the hospital. The unit welcomed its first children and young people in February 2024.

Local college students were recently invited to a building site to find out about different careers in construction and learn about a very special building process currently being undertaken at University Hospitals Plymouth.

Every month our Board leaders meet in public to assess how we’re doing for the patients and communities we serve, how we’re doing for our staff, our achievements, our challenges with a big focus on what we’re doing to address them and what our plans are for the future.

Planning permission has been granted for the new Plymouth Community Diagnostic Centre (PCDC) to be built in the West End.

We were delighted to welcome Professor Sir Stephen Powis, NHS England National Medical Director, Dr David Hargroves (National Clinical Director for Stroke Medicine), Dr Nigel Acheson (Devon ICB Medical Director), Dr Michael Marsh and members of the South West Regional Medical Directorate to visit UHP today to look at the Stroke Care we provide for the people of Plymouth and the Peninsula in the first of a number of national visits.
