We were delighted to welcome Professor Sir Stephen Powis, NHS England National Medical Director, Dr David Hargroves (National Clinical Director for Stroke Medicine), Dr Nigel Acheson (Devon ICB Medical Director), Dr Michael Marsh and members of the South West Regional Medical Directorate to visit UHP today to look at the Stroke Care we provide for the people of Plymouth and the Peninsula in the first of a number of national visits.

University Hospitals Plymouth is pleased to announce plans to build a new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) and Fracture Clinic.

The new UTC will be in addition to the Cumberland Centre located in Devonport, Plymouth and the Tavistock and Kingsbridge Minor Injury Units and will help to reduce footfall and take the pressure off the main Derriford Emergency Department, improving the care delivered to patients.

Life-saving lung health checks with an iconic South West backdrop are set to be offered to thousands of smokers and ex-smokers from Plymouth and surrounding areas.

NHS England, the national team for Urological Services and the South West Urology Network visited the new Chestnut Urological Investigation Unit at University Hospitals Plymouth on Friday.  

The teams celebrated the new unit which has capacity for patients to have a scan, biopsy and see a consultant for diagnosis on the same day. There are only two other units in the country with these capabilities.

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is working on the development of a new and improved outpatient pharmacy due to open in Spring 2024.

A brand-new Planned Investigation Unit (PIU) was officially opened on Thursday 14 December by its first patient, Sarah Weeks, a patient of the unit for over 20 years.

Following a public consultation last month, the planning application for the city’s new Community Diagnostic Centre has been submitted to Plymouth City Council for approval.
