Standards of Condition, appearance and maintenance at University Hospitals Plymouth (UHP) Derriford Hospital site have been rated as 99%, in a recent PLACE assessment. PLACE is part of a national system that aims to help NHS organisations understand how well they are meeting the needs of their patients and identify where improvements can be made and stands for Patient-Led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE)

CQC inspectors have published their report into Urgent and Emergency Care, finding strong improvement and also identifying ongoing areas of concern. The report is shared here with our response.

Derriford Hospital’s Emergency Department has today been awarded a Silver accreditation, as part of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine’s (RCEM) GreenED programme .

Plymouth’s four largest anchor institutions, Plymouth City Council, Babcock International Group, University of Plymouth, and University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, have united under the Civic Engagement Agreement to improve information for parents, to ensure that they can access the support, resources, and information they need to help their families thrive.

Manuela Cresswell, Consultant Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust has been chosen to have her portrait displayed at the Hunterian Museum, inside the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) in London, as part of the ‘Insight: Portraits of Women in Surgery’ exhibition which shines a light on women working in surgery across the UK.

Our Emergency Department is currently very busy and if you do not have an emergency or life-threatening condition, you may be redirected to other healthcare services. These include NHS 111, our Urgent Treatment Centres at the Dartmoor Building and the Cumberland Centre, and our Minor Injury Units at Kingsbridge and Tavistock. You may also be advised to use local pharmacies or to contact your GP.

The team at Hospital Radio Plymouth (HRP) have been shortlisted for seven awards at the 2026 Hospital Broadcasting Awards. These nominations include awards for newcomer, station promotion, presenter awards and station of the year.
