A Memorandum of Understanding was recently signed, marking the commitment of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, University of Plymouth, Plymouth Science Park and Plymouth City Council to create a Health, Research, Education, Enterprise and Innovation Zone in the north of Plymouth, based around the hospital and Science Park estate.

Recently, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) ran clinical trials with 33,374 patients being recruited from UHP. This currently ranks the Trust in first place for our NIHR regional reporting metrics, and in second place nationally, just behind Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, based in London.

Every year University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP) host the Learning Disability and Autism Awards to celebrate staff who go above and beyond in their every day clinical practice to support people with learning disabilities or who are autistic.

As of 1 May 2025, the Paediatric ED has relocated and pedestrian walk-ins will need to enter the building via the Main Entrance at the front of Derriford Hospital.

All minors (under 16) will need to be brought through the main entrance doors. Please then follow the red signs directing you to the Paediatric Emergency Department.
