General areas of expertise:
Dr Millward MA MSc MD FRCP graduated from Cambridge and King’s College, London Universities. She has been a Senior Lecturer/Consultant in Plymouth since 1993. Her main clinical areas of expertise are in the complications of diabetes (such as neuropathy and nephropathy) as well as special circumstances such as pregnancy and adolescence. She has previously held academic positions at King’s College London and Marseille. She is currently part of the General Diabetes Team at Derriford. She is Clinical Lead for the South West Peninsula Local Diabetes Research Network (LRN).
Particular areas of expertise:
Dr Millward’s particular areas of expertise are currently in the areas of clinical research. She heads up a 6 bedded Clinical Research Unit on the Tamar Science Park site where she is interested in all aspects of new treatments in Diabetes, both type 1 and type 2 as well as specific treatments for the complications of diabetes. She has specific interests in the causes of Gestational Diabetes and childhood obesity. She manages the Peninsula diabetes LRN team in clinical diabetes research. She is involved in the genetics of diabetic complications.
