Consultant Cardiac Surgeon

Mr Nader Moawad is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. He is a UK-trained cardiac surgeon with extensive experience in adult cardiac surgery and has completed post-completion of surgical training fellowships in minimally invasive cardiac surgery at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, and adult cardiac surgery at St Louis University Hospital, Missouri USA.

He has developed a broad expertise across adult cardiac surgery, with particular interests in coronary artery bypass surgery, aortic valve surgery, complex aortic surgery and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. Following completion of his UK cardiac surgical training, he undertook specialist post-CCT fellowships in minimally invasive cardiac surgery at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, and adult cardiac surgery at St Louis University Hospital, USA, further developing his expertise in contemporary and complex cardiac surgical techniques.

Mr Moawad is passionate about delivering personalised, high-quality surgical care and believes in combining technical excellence with clear communication and a patient-centred approach. He works closely with patients and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure that treatment decisions are carefully considered and tailored to each individual.

Alongside his clinical work, he has a strong interest in clinical research, innovation and surgical education. He has contributed to national and international research collaborations and clinical trials and has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. He also has a passion for Clinical Education and has extensive experience in teaching, mentoring and developing the next generation of surgeons.

He is delighted to have returned to Plymouth as a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and is committed to contributing to the continued development of high-quality cardiac surgical services for patients across Devon and Cornwall.
