Consultant Neurosurgeon

Mr Sam Muquit is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at University Hospitals NHS Trust. His areas specialist clinical interest include:

  • Skull base surgery
  • Pituitary surgery
  • Neuro-endoscopy
  • Trigeminal Neuralgia
  • Normal pressure Hydrocephalus
  • Spinal surgery

In addition to this his clinical practice includes neuro-oncology and general neurosurgery, including trauma.

He is the lead for pituitary and skull base surgery and core member of the

  • Pituitary multidisciplinary team
  • Skull base multidisciplinary team
  • Facial pain multidisciplinary team
  • NPH multidisciplinary team
  • Neuro-oncology multidisciplinary team

 

Professional profile

Mr Muquit graduated from the St Bartholomew’s School of Medicine, University of London, in 2002. He also has a bachelor's degree in Neurosciences from University of London as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education.

Following his junior surgical training in London he completed higher neurosurgical training in Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham.

After being awarded the Fellowship of the Royal of Surgeons in Neurosurgery in 2013 he gained subspecialist training in complex spine surgery at the Centre for Spinal Studies and Surgery, Nottingham. This was followed subspecialist training in skull base and pituitary surgery at the Walton Centre, Liverpool.

Mr Muquit has been a consultant neurosurgeon at Derriford Hospital since 2016.

 

Education and examination profile

Mr Muquit is Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Plymouth. In addition to teaching roles at the university he is also an examiner and member of the Clinical Assessment Panel.

Mr Muquit is an examiner for the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies’ Fellowship of the European Board Examination in Neurosurgery (FEBNS).

He has published widely in peer reviewed journals, neurosurgery books, and presented at conferences and meetings nationally and internationally.  He is a member of the Society of British Neurological Surgeons and European Association of Neurological Societies.
