Stories of long service at University Hospitals Plymouth
Many of our staff have long and varied careers at University Hospitals Plymouth. When it’s time to retire, we look back, celebrate, and reflect on their career.
Roslyn’s NHS career has spanned an impressive 48 years. Her journey began as a trainee nurse in Scotland with her later moving to Plymouth.
In Plymouth she started work in the Freedom Fields Maternity Unit and remained there for four years. She then moved to Mount Gould hospital where she expanded her skills and experience by working in the Trauma Orthopaedic Ward and completed an Orthopaedic Diploma Qualification.
Roslyn’s next step was to move to Derriford Hospital where she gained further knowledge and expertise in different areas. During this time she worked in Orthopaedics and Rheumatology and spent a brief spell in the Ear, Nose, and Throat department. She finally secured a position in Dermatology where she spent the rest of her career.
In the Dermatology department, Roslyn was a key member of the Phototherapy team and contributed to the nurse-led services. This included involvement with setting up the Photodynamic Therapy service in Plymouth.
After a long and interesting career, Roslyn decided to retire. Her friends and colleagues came together to say goodbye:
“Ros has always led by example, with a great big heart and smile on her face, providing care, compassion and kindness to all. She is a valued and respected member of the team, who is more than just a co-worker to many of us, she is also a caring friend who will be hugely missed.
“It is impossible to measure what Roz means to our team, but I know that I speak on behalf of everyone when I say how incredibly fortunate, we have been to have benefitted from her knowledge and skills over these last 19 years, not to mention the difference she has made to her patients and the lives she has touched along the way.”
