Professor C Roobottom

Consultant Radiologist

Professor Carl Roobottom has been a consultant radiologist at Derriford since 1995. He oversaw the development of the Peninsula Radiology Academy for the training of radiologists – the only such centre in the world – which is one of the largest radiology training schemes in the country, with above average exam results.  In 2009 he was appointed Professor of Radiology and splits his time between the hospital, Academy and Plymouth University Peninsula School of Medicine & Dentistry.

Prof Roobottom is one of the country’s leading experts on cardiac CT, and has written articles and book chapters on the subject as well as sitting on government expert panels such as the National Imaging Board, and for the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE). He has level 3 (the highest) accreditation with the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging for cardiac CT.

Prof. Roobottom has extensive research experience over last 15 years and is a current member of Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust Research Committee.  He currently is MD supervisor for 3 post-graduate medics. Published in excess of 100 peer reviewed publications & 350 abstracts. Extensive International presentations. Editor of 2 main Radiology journals UK. Organiser of UK Radiology Congress last 3 years (cardiac). Advised DoH and NICE on CT. Developed Training and accreditation programs for Cardiac CT for UK. Awarded research CT scanner by DoH. Helped develop CT technology with world's largest CT manufacturer.
